Three-month-old Rocky was found on the 1600 block of S.W28th Street in bad condition. "His ears were actually cut down to the scalp and in some places there was part of the scalp missing," said Lyne Huffman with the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter. A veterinarian immediately put him on an antibiotic to stave off infection. A few days later, they went in to properly clean the wounds. "When she went to clean him up, she had to put him under anesthesia so it wouldn't cause him pain, and she had to make sure to get all of the dirt, and grit, and infection that had started to set in out of there," Huffman said. His ears will never grow back, but his hearing is still intact. The investigation is still openOfficials are hoping for more leads to find whoever did this. "We need to know," Huffman said, "That way, there might be other animals out there we can save prior to being in Rocky's shape." But, the shelter has gotten dozens of calls from people asking how Rocky is doing and if they can adopt him. "I've gotten at least 50, 60 calls," Huffman said"And, that's not just me." Unfortunately, there will be only one of him to go around in a few weeks after he's completely healed. "Rocky's really special," Huffman said"But, we've got a lot of special ones out there, too who are just waiting for homes before Christmas." PETA is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty to animal charges of the person or persons responsible.
