EAU CLAIRE, Wis(WEAU) -- Tests show drinking water in a local town has high levels of lead.
According to the Wisconsin DNR, routine drinking water samples from homes in Fairchild showed elevated levels of lead.
Lead is widespread throughout the environment, and people absorb the toxic metal from a variety of sources every day, but when lead levels rise, especially in drinking water, the Eau Claire County Health department says it draws concern.
“We have concerns about lead exposure for multiple reasons here in Eau Claire and in Wisconsin,” says Eau Claire County Environmental Health Supervisor KT Gallagher.
According to the Wisconsin DNR, testing for lead in ten homes in July and August of 2017 showed that drinking water in the Village of Fairchild exceeded the "action level” of lead
Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, systems are then required to take action to reduce lead in drinking water and provide annual public education to inform all drinking water consumers.
WEAU 13 News reached out to the operator of Fairchild waterworks, Curtis Eisberner, and he declined to comment.
