While many of us plan to unwrap gifts and drink hot chocolate with family this Christmas season, there are hundreds of Montana kids waiting for a forever home. In this month's A Waiting Child segment, we look at the startling statistics and how you can help a child in need. The Montana Department of Health and Human Services (DPHHS) reports that there are nearly 4,000 kids are in foster care with 488 awaiting adoption. Suzanne Brawn with Child and Family Services says the biggest needs are families willing to take in older kids and siblings.CFS is also in need of Native American families to take in children, because the Indian Child Welfare Act stipulates that Native American children must stay in Indian homes. Brawn says the placement of these children in state custody is typically a result of abuse and neglect or substance abuse."Our kids become victims of the circumstance of their parent's choicesThey experience trauma when they are removed, and if we can't find family to take care of them then, we are placing them with people they don't know so there's that trust factor that has to start again,” Brawn said. For those folks who aren’t ready to take in a child there are still ways to help those in needCFS accepts Christmas gifts for children in care, as well as cash donations to help feed and house these kids. This Tuesday, don't miss "A Home for the Holidays” on CBSThe heartwarming special calls attention to the rewards of giving foster children permanent families and better futures.  It airs at 7 p.mon Dec19. if (Worldnow.EventMan) Worldnow.EventMan.event('WNCol23done'); Worldnow.Helpers.debug('UB col4a-weather-block(382229)', 'UB_382229'); (function() { var useSSL = 'https:' == document.location.protocol; var src = (useSSL ?
