BURTON (WJRT) A Mid-Michigan neighborhood is chiseling out after water floods their street.
Burton neighbors woke up to more than a foot of water in front of their homes
A few neighbors say this street has flooded before
It was several years back and during the warmer months, but never have they seen their street like this during winter
A semi-truck hit a fire hydrant in the early morning hours of Friday.
"I've seen it flooded but not like this,” Sue Moore said
Ice began building upon many of the driveways on the 1400 block of Proper Avenue
"All of this is going to have to be chiseledI am going to try and do what I can, but I don't know if I am going to be able to do it,” Moore said
Genesee County Road Commission was successful in shutting off the water.
After that, the water began to drain.
"We like it in the spring, but not nowKids like it because they can go swimming...No swimming today,” Shirley Tolbert said
A few miles away on Court Street near the Walmart, Burton city crews were out trying to stop a water main break from furthering damaging the road
