Thirteen West Michigan nursing homes have been rated among the top providers in the country. They have earned five-star ratings from U.SNews & World Report, landing "top-performing" spots on its ranking of “Best Nursing Homes” for 2017-18. U.SNews analysts evaluated more than 15,000 nursing homes nationwide, and 15 percent (about 2,300) were identified as a “best nursing home” or “top-performing” provider. The rankings are designed to help people make informed health care decisions. "Finding a nursing home that meets an individual's specific needs is a difficult decision that several million families across America face each year," said Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer, U.SNews. "The ‘Best Nursing Homes’ ratings, advice and tools were designed to help navigate this important life decision and make the process a little easier." “Best Nursing Homes” in West Michigan Allegan County Medical Care Community, Allegan Evergreen Manor Senior Care Center, Battle Creek Friendship Village, Kalamazoo Heartland Health Care Center-Ionia, Ionia Mary Free Bed Sub-Acute Rehabilitation, Grand Rapids Metron of Cedar Springs, Cedar Springs  Metron of Lamont, Lamont Newaygo Medical Care Facility, Fremont Resthaven Care Center, Holland Spectrum Health Rehabilitation & Nursing Centers-United Hospital, Greenville StAnns Home, Grand Rapids Valley Health Center, Grand Rapids Waterford Rehabilitation Center, Jenison  Methodology Since 2009, U.SNews has relied on data from Nursing Home Compare, a program run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, to develop its annual nursing home ratings report. To qualify as a “Best Nursing Home,” facilities had to earn an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 during 10 months of federal reports ending in August 2017 and consistently meet performance standards set by U.SNews, such as earning at least a 4 in the CMS overall rating for all 10 months. Nursing Home Finder The U.SNews also released Nursing Home Finder, which offers information about care, safety, health inspections, staffing and more for nearly every nursing home in the country. The tool allows individuals to conduct customized searches for a highly rated nursing home by location, distance, Medicare and Medicaid coverage and size. var addthis_config = { ui_language: "en"}; $(function(){ addthis.init(); }); Justin Dawes Justin Dawes is a Grand Rapids Business Journal staff reporter who covers economic development, health care, higher education, nonprofits, travel and tourism, sustainability and the lakeshoreEmail Justin at jdawes at grbj dot comFollow him on Twitter @dawes_justin Recent Articles by Justin Dawes Inside Track: A voice for everyone Detroit students explore Muskegon College opening $14.8M technology center Editor's Picks The top 10 stories at in 2017 Civic agency offering $200K to attract brewery, brewpub or distiller Hospital releases top baby names for 2017 // var disqus_developer = 0; var disqus_shortname = "grbj"; var disqus_identifier = "article-89701"; var disqus_url = ""; var disqus_title = "West Michigan nursing homes rate among 'best' in US"; /* * * DON'T EDIT BELOW THIS LINE * * */ (function() { var dsq = document.createElement('script'); dsq.type = 'text/javascript'; dsq.async = true; dsq.src = '//' + disqus_shortname + ''; (document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0] || document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0]).appendChild(dsq); })(); Please enable JavaScript to view the comments powered by Disqus.
