By Erin Edgemon eedgemon@al.com Birmingham-based firm Nequette Architecture & Design is designing homes at a new community at Lake Martin. Kennebec, a LakeTown Community, is a collaboration among Alabama Power, Daniel Communities, and Nequette Architecture and DesignIt will be located at the south side of Lake Martin near the Ridge Marina, both main channels of the lake and Chimney Rock. Kennebec will consist of 41 private, wooded homesites with long deep-water views on many lots and adjacent to 74 acres of nature preserve, Nequette Architecture & Design said. The home designs at Kennebec are inspired by the natural landscape with outdoor living spaces and porches that seamlessly connect to indoor rooms, natural materials incorporated throughout the homes, neutral color palettes and large expanses of glass, according to the Birmingham firm. "Our firm is very excited to be part of this unique development next to beautiful Lake Martin," said, Louis Nequette, lead principle of Nequette Architecture & Design"Our vision was inspired by the picturesque land and waterfront viewsThis lake community will encompass authentic, well-crafted homes perfect for making memories that will last a lifetime." Kennebec is part of a concept called LakeTownLakeTown's goal is to create communities around lakes in a way that focus not on the lake as a weekend destination, but as an essential, purposeful part of lifeLaketown communities will add value to the Lake Martin region and are designed to stand the test of time for generations to come, according to the company.
