The lake was built in the 1930s as a work program to bring this country out of the depression and was clear cut prior to the dam construction so it created a boaters paradise, even the most novice boater can relax and have fun while honing their boating skills. I am not sure if that was the intention when they were building the largest manmade lake in the world at that time, we have more shoreline than the state of California, but build it they did and we have the creativity and determination of many hard working men and women to thank for the paradise they created for our enjoyment today. The lake has a more practical purpose as well, we are one of the largest electrical generators in the state, and while other states must purchase electricity, we sell our excess capacity and provide low cost utility service to our local economy. (Your electric bills are great here, yeah!!) The lake is the center of our community, and is unique in many fashions. We host events from major national fishing tournaments throughout the year, the OSS offshore boat races, antique car show, to Harley Davidson bike events that make your time here a wonderful adventure. And do we ever have GOLF, GOLF, GOLF. The only Signature Jack Nicholas golf course in the state of Missouri, as well as a 27-hole Arnold Palmer course that is breathtaking in beauty. That is only a small part of the fun things to do here, and I forgot to mention the houses. We have everything from condominiums that have a fabulous view of the lake to the most breathtaking multi-million dollar homes. You get the grandeur of the property with half the price tag of Los Angeles and none of the crime. You have to come see it to believe how wonderful it is, I fell in love with it, and so will you.
