A candidate for county sheriff in West Virginia has been charged with possession of heroin after he was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of his home Tuesday. Medics attending to John Orem, 47, gave him Narcan to reverse the effects of narcotics, the Herald-Mail reportsAuthorities said they found a cotton ball on a metal spoon in a bathroom cabinet that later tested positive for heroin. Orem is the Republican nominee for Berkeley County sheriffThe Orem campaign released the following statement on Facebook: Court documents also stated that the candidate was treated by medical responders in a separate incident on Monday.  Orem was arraigned on Tuesday and released on $5,000 bond, according to reports. Previously, Orem worked as a police officer in Martinsburg, West Virginia, before an injury forced him to retire from the force in 1999, according to his websiteHe worked in real estate following his career in law enforcement.
