WASHINGTON ( TheStreet) -- How bad is the mortgage crisis? It's so bad that the Mortgage Bankers Association had to sell its headquarters at a lossSounds like one of those jokes that make the rounds on the Internet, but sadly this one is trueThe Mortgage Bankers Association sold its Washington headquarters building to CoStar ( CSGP), a commercial real estate data firm, for $41.3 million, a little more than half the $79 million the group originally financed in 2007 through a group of banks led by PNC Financial ( PNC), according to the Wall Street JournalThis is more than a little embarrassing for a group that represents some 2,400 lenders, loan brokers, commercial banks, thrifts and life insurance companiesYou expect more from a group whose directors include executives from JPMorgan Chase ( JPM), KeyCorp ( KEY) and other notable financial companies and whose sponsors for its 2009 annual convention included big banks such as Citigroup ( C), Wells Fargo ( WFC) along with Fannie Mae ( FNM) and Freddie Mac ( FRE)Surely someone affiliated with the Mortgage Bankers Association should have known better --Written by Glenn Hall in New YorkFollow TheStreet.com on Twitter and become a fan on Facebook TheStreet's editorial policy prohibits editors and reporters from holding positions in any individual stocks. document.addEventListener('appBottomLoadedEvent', function () { if (typeof $LAB !== 'undefined') { $LAB.script(function () { return '//s.t.st/assets/thestreet-ngbeta/production/407/js/article/article-hash-pagination-141f2dd71cdde03f932cdf115e82d771.js'; }); } }); // TODO: REMOVE INLINE SCRIPTS if (typeof Keystone !== 'undefined') { document.addEventListener('deferredLoadedEvent', function () { $(function () { Keystone.Utils.AlertsUtil.init(); }); // Keystone.UserWatchlistUtil.loadReferrerStories(document.referrer); var alertMgrResetMessage = false; $(function () { $(document).on("userLoggedInEvent", function (event) { alertMgrResetMessage = true; }); $(document).on("modalClosedEvent", function (event) { if (alertMgrResetMessage) { alertMgrResetMessage = false; } }); $(document).on("userLoggedOutEvent", function (event) { $("#userNotifications").hide(); $("#signin").show().html(' Please login to manage your alerts'); Keystone.UPM.CommForms.openAltLogin("follow"); document.location.href = document.location.href; // Refresh the page }); $("#notificationsLoading").on('click', '.alertsLogin', function (e) { e.preventDefault(); Keystone.UPM.CommForms.openAltLogin('follow'); }); }); }); } Watchlist What stocks are you watching?
