Success! — Manage subscriptions Sign up for our Newsletters ! 73° Share CBRE broker named commercial Realtor of the year By Richard Metcalf / Journal Staff Writer Tuesday, November 18th, 2014 at 3:21pm ...................................................................................................................................................................ALBUQUERQUE, N.M— Office broker Dan Newman of commercial real estate services firm CBRE was named Realtor of the Year at the Commercial Association of Realtors New Mexico annual luncheon meeting on Tuesday.A New York native and graduate of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Newman moved to New Mexico in 1976 and, after a career in architecture, shifted to commercial real estateHe was described as one of the perennial top deal makers at CBRE, one of the metro’s major brokerage firms where he has worked since 2004.Introduced with his wife and two daughters at his side, Newman praised the local commercial real estate brokerage community, saying, “No market is as cooperative and supportive for competitors as this market is.”The award presentation included a roast element as last year’s Realtor of the Year, Dave Hill of NAI Maestas & Ward, said Newman was born in 1950 and won a prettiest baby contest.The commercial real estate affiliate of the Realtors Association of New Mexico, CARNM’s membership is 466, up from 452 last year but a small proportion of the nearly 5,500 Realtors statewide.ADVERTISEMENTCarl Grending of Sperry Van Ness/Walt Arnold Commercial Brokerage replaces Tom Franchini of Colliers International as CARNM’s president for 2015.In other action, CARNM presented its annual top commercial real estate deals of the year awards.In the over $1 million category, Todd Clarke of New Mexico Apartment Advisors was recognized for the sale of an 80-unit apartment propertyIn the under $1 million category, Keith Meyer and Jim Wible of Maestas & Ward were recognized for the sale of an office/warehouse condominium.Tuesday’s luncheon opened with a presentation on real estate and the economy both nationally and in New Mexico by Ted CJones, chief economist at Stewart Title, who said New Mexico’s dependence on government jobs and lack of population growth does not bode well for the immediate future of commercial real estate.
