Quimby Doug Quimby, a local real estate developer, will head the board of directors of the combined Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and EDC when it gets off the ground Feb1. Not only that, Quimby will serve as interim CEO of the new organization until a new CEO can be hired. Quimby was one of the architects of the merger, and one of its most ardent supportersHe served as chairman of the Colorado Springs Economic Development Corp., and as interim CEO and president after the ouster of Mike Kazmierski. But Quimby’s rise to the top doesn’t mean that Dave Csintyan, current CEO of the chamber, is out of a jobCsintyan will continue as chamber CEO, with Quimby as his boss, until a CEO is chosen from the national search, said Polly Weldon, spokesperson for the chamber. Once the CEO is chosen, that person will decide the structure of the organization Csintyan is a candidate for the position. Both the board of the chamber and the board of the EDC approved the new officersMike Jorgensen, president and partner of Red Noland Cadillac will be the vice-chairman and had nothing but praise for Quimby. “I’ve worked with Doug on this merger for the past eight months and am delighted that he will be leading us as we craft the strategic direction for this new, dynamic organization,” he said“I believe his knowledge, passion and vision will be just what we need to be successful.” Other board officers include Chris Blees, CEO of BiggsKofford as treasurer; Dan Malinaric, managing director and site manager of Atmel, as secretaryToby Gannett, executive director of The Palisades at Broadmoor park and Steve Helbing, regional president of the Southern Colorado Wells Fargo Bank., will help the officers as part of the original transition team. Additional members of the new board include Frank Caris, CEO of dpiX; Debbie Chandler, executive vice president and CEO of Colorado Springs Health Partners; Chris Jenkins, president of Nor’wood Development Group; Tom Neppl, president of Springs Fabrication; Sherri Newell, chief public affairs officer of Colorado Springs Utilities; Kevin O’Neil, president of The O’Neil Group; Dave Palenchar, COO of El Pomar Foundation; Venkat Reddy, dean of the College of Business at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs; and General “Gene” Renuart, USAF(Ret.). The CEO search is proceeding under the direction of a previously constituted search committee It is anticipated that a CEO for the organization will be hired by the new board sometime in February.
