AUGUSTA — Maine’s 2011 deer season ended in a total harvest of 18,839 deer, a 6 percent decrease from the 2010 season. The Any Deer Permit System allows Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IFW) biologists to regulate the taking of antler-less deerAdult females are the most important element of the population for reproduction. The protection of antler-less deer resulted in a 23 percent decline in the adult doe harvest and a 25 percent decrease in the fawn harvestThe adult buck harvest increased 5 percent.
